5 reasons to use video marketing for your business

Late last year I was lucky to work on what I think was the best project of my career so far: the creation of a lipdub video. if you don't know what a lipdub video is, it's one of these music videos where you see lots of people appearing in front of the camera, pretending to sing on top of a soundtrack.

The idea came from my CEO as a replacement to our traditional Christmas Card, and although at first I was very sceptical and apprehensive, the video turned out excellent and we received a great feedback.

Of course this type of video is highly entertaining and might not be as educational as you would like to present your company or your products, but for me it got me into video mode and I'm definitely looking forward to creating more.

Here are 5 reasons why you can consider including videos in your marketing efforts

1. Videos are great explainers
Whether you want to describe how a particular product works or summarize your company's value proposition, you can do it more easily with a 3 minute video than writing 5 pages on a website. If a picture says a thousand words, imagine what a video does.
2. Videos are highly recyclable
By recyclable I mean reusable. At first you might create a new video to be projected on a booth during a trade show, but then nothing stops you from using it on your website, sending it in a newsletter, putting it on a CD for distribution, projecting it in your office reception, etc..
3. Videos are great for mobile marketing
Have you noticed the trend? Millions of people are getting smartphones and browsing content on the go. And guess what feels better than reading text on a small screen? Watching a video. With 3G, 4G or wifi becoming available in almost any place now, streaming videos is not a problem for most people.
4. Videos can bring more traffic to your site
Youtube is actually a great search engine and videos are indexed very well. If you regularly upload some videos online and add a link to your website, you will eventually see a nice surge of traffic coming from Youtube.
5. If done well, videos can go viral.
We have all received one of these highly entertaining emails that go from inbox to inbox, linking to hilarious or controversial videos. Now with social media, sharing content is even easier and a great video has the potential to go very far.

At the same time as videos are becoming easier to share, they are also becoming easier to make. You can find equipment at a reasonable price, find an editing software relatively easy to use or hire a pro from a variety of sources. So there is almost no excuse for not diving into videos.

And because it's Monday and I want to brighten your day, here is an example of a lipdub video:
